A fine George III sterling silver serving platter or meat platter by Richard Carter, Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp, hallmarked London 1779. Shaped oval form with applied gadroon border. Engraved with the Murray family coat of arms and motto "Hinc usque superna venabor" (Henceforward I will seek after heavenly things) and a double family crest and mottos: Superna Venbor" and "Free". 18.7" (47.5cm) wide, 55.4 troy oz (1724g).
