George IV Sterling Silver Entree Dish
A fine quality George IV sterling silver entree dish by Creswick & Co, hallmarked Sheffield 1825. Shaped rectangular form with applied gadroon and acanthus borders and removable acanthus and vine handle. Engraved with on each side of the lid with a presentations, the first: "Presented with other 3 silver dishes, two salvers and a tureen/ the whole of the value of 210 Guineas/ to/ Andrew Stoddart Esq/ of South Shields/ for forty years the agent of the dean and chapter of Durham/ by 156 of his Agricultural and other friends/ in testimony of their appreciation of his/ high character & great private worth/ April 17th 1862". The second: Presented/ to/ Clara Alexandrina Wormald Lawson/ by her affectionate Grandfather/ Andrew Stoddart/ Sep 10 1868". 11.75" x 9" (29.8 x 22.9cm), 62.1 troy oz. (1923g).
