Pair of George II Silver Candlesticks
Pair of George II silver candlesticks by William Gould, hallmarked for London 1750. Cast construction, shaped square bases with shells at corners, knopped baluster stems and spool shaped sockets. They are engraved with the family crest of Perceval. 8.25" (21cm) high, 27.2 ozt (847g).
Given the date of manufacture it may be presumed that these candlesticks were either commissioned or acquired during the lifetime of John Perceval, the 2nd Earl of Egmont (born 24th February 1710/11 died 4th December 1770). John had five sons one of whom was Spencer Perceval, the Parliamentarian
who was the only British Prime Minister to have been assassinated.
