Victorian Sterling Silver Melon Carving Set

A Victorian sterling silver melon carving set by Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall, hallmarked Sheffield 1869.  The heads and handles with engraved decoration, bead borders, in their original fitted case.  Length of the knife 10 7⁄8" (27.6cm).

Fresh fruit was quite a luxury in the 19th century and these servers would have provided the elegance that was due on such an occasion.  Today they make excellent cake servers.
