A massive late Victorian sterling silver inkstand by Charles Stuart Harris, hallmarked for London 1898. Designed in the Regency style, rectangular shaped frame with two oval inkwells with hinged covers and glass inserts, two pen wells, gadroon borders and bracket feet. Exceptionally heavy and fine quality sterling silver inkstand. Inscribed with a family crest and a presentation inscription: "Merton A Thoms Esq. / a mark of respect & esteem/ from the parliamentary agents society/ 1900". 13.5" (34.3cm) across, 8 7⁄8" (22.5cm) deep, 55.8 troy oz (1736g).
