A large and superb quality figural Victorian sterling silver tea set by James Charles Edington, hallmarked London 1862. Comprising a coffee pot, teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug. Baluster shaped bodies on scroll feet, decorated with panels framed with scroll-work and chased flowers. Each panel of this figural silver tea set is applied with cast medieval-inspired figural groups, the finials modeled as cast falcons surmounting gauntlets. The cream jug and sugar bowl with gilt interiors. Height of coffee pot 9.75" (24.8cm), capacity of teapot 8 cups (1900ml), total weight 95.8 troy oz (2980g). James Charles Edington was a well respected English silversmith, know for producing silver in ornate the Victorian style. He was apprenticed to William Ker Reid and free in 1824. Edington registered his first mark in 1828 at his premises on Berwick Street in London. He moved to Leicester Square in 1837 and worked until 1862. For other figural silver pieces click here.
