A large George IV sterling silver sauce boat or gravy boat probably by John Wakefield, hallmarked London 1826. Traditional boat shape with gadroon border, on three legs with shell feet and acanthus capped double scroll handle, the body decorated with repousse scrolls, flowers and foliage. Engraved with the crest and motto "Tyde What May" for the Scottish clan Haig. Engraved on the underside "Mr Price / Mr & Mrs David Haig 17 March 1828". 8" (20.3cm) long, 13.8 troy oz (428g), (capacity is 1.5 cups).
