A fine Victorian sterling silver christening set by Thomas Smily, hallmarked London 1869. The set includes a Christening cup with two scroll handles on pedestal foot, with engraved decoration and bead edge, inscribed "To Olga Violet Jenkins from Evan & Emma Daniel 26 July 1877". It also includes a knife, fork and spoon in silver gilt with engraved decoration, monogrammed OVJ, the knife with beautiful carved mother of pearl handle. Still contained in the original fitted case. Length of knife is 8.25" (21cm). 11.7 ozt (364g) weighable. Olga Violet Jenkins was the third child of Sir John Jones Jenkins, 1st Baron Glantawe, (a Welsh business magnate and liberal politician, click here for a bio), this christening set was presented to her by her maternal uncle and aunt. Her younger sister Alina Kate Elaine Jenkins became the Viscountess Bledisloe.
