A fine quality Victorian sterling silver melon carving set by Charles Edwards, hallmarked London 1883. The fork head and knife blade with engraved decoration, carved ivory handles and fitted leather case. Length of the knife 9 7⁄8" (25.1cm).

Fresh fruit was quite a luxury in the 19th century and these servers would have provided the elegance that was due on such an occasion. Today they make excellent cake servers.
