A pair of large German five light silver candelabra by Johann George Hossauer, Berlin c. 1830. On shaped square bases with tapered stems, spool-shaped sockets and square nozzles, with stylized shell mounts The stems are each engraved with the Royal Prussian Crown above an E for Queen Elizabeth of Prussia. -Hossauer was awarded the title Goldsmith of his Majesty the King in 1826 by Friederich Wilhelm III and received numerous commissions from the Prussian Royal family.

-The candelabra are virtually identical in design to a pair of candlesticks that "formed part of the wedding service of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, later Emperor Wilhelm I, and his wife Princes Augusta. The service was commissioned from Hossauer in 1829 was inspired by English silver of the 18th century. It was made in higher standard of 15th and was intended to show that the Royal Prussian silversmiths could produce silver of a quality equal or even superior to that of Britain, while using the latest manufacturing techniques." - lot notes from lot 113 Christies sale 6727 IMPORTANT SILVER 11 June 2003 London, King Street.
