A pair of fine quality George III sterling silver entree dishes by Thomas Robins, hallmarked London 1808. Circular with two bands of fluting, gadroon borders and side-mounted ring handles, the domed lids with heraldic lion-rampant handles. Each piece engraved on both sides with coat-of-arms and motto "Virtus Probata Florescit" (Virtue tested flourishes). The arms are those of Francis Bernard, 1st Earl of Bandon. Bernard was an MP for Ennis and Bandonbridge in the Irish House of Commons; the Earls of Bandon were large land owners in County Cork and lived in Castle Bernard in Bandon. 9.25" (23.5cm) diameter, 7" (17.8cm) high, 94.4 troy oz. (2937g).
