A large fine quality William IV sterling silver vinaigrette by Nathaniel Mills, hallmarked Birmingham 1835. Rectangular with applied floral borders and engine turned ground, the grill pierced and engraved with flowers and foliage, gilt interior. 1.75" (4.4cm). From our Glossary of Antique Silver: Vinaigrette: A portable hinged box designed to hold, beneath a pierced grill, a small sponge soaked in vinegar or perfume as an antidote to everyday odours. 17th-19th century.
