**Given the distinct crest engraved upon these candlesticks, together with their date of
hallmarking they were undoubtedly in the possession of the Bewes family, of St. Neot

their manufacture meshes in well with the marriage of Harry Bewes (born 1741 died
28th March 1793), of Beaumont House, Plymouth in the aforesaid county and Sarah
Tonkin (born 25th February 1752 died October 18351) at the Parish Church of St.
