A large George III Irish silver loving cup by Matthew West (jr), hallmarked Dublin 1807 (also bears the maker's mark of John Clark Jacob West and the maker's mark of Daniel Egan). Inverted pyriform on pedestal base with two double scroll handles, bright cut engraving and an engraved coat of arms*. 9.75" (24.8cm) high, 10.25" (26cm) from handle to handle, 39.4 troy oz (1225g).

*The arms as engraved upon this Irish Silver Loving Cup are those of the family of Dobbin impaling Miller. These armorial bearings denote the marshalling of a marital coat showing on the dexter (the heraldic right on the left as you view the piece) the arms of the husband and on the sinister (the heraldic left on the right as you view it) the arms of the wife. These armorial bearings undoubtedly commemorate the marriage of Leonard Dobbin (born 29th April 1789 died 5th May 1881), of the City of Armagh, of Wood Park in the County of Armagh and of Templeport in the County of Cavan and Mary Miller (died 24th January 1848), the fourth daughter of The Reverend, DD, Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin and Rector of Derryvolan in the County of Fermanagh. Leonard was the eldest son of Thomas Dobbin, of Armagh and his wife, Rhoda Brown. He served as the Clerk of the Peace for the County of Armagh. Leonard and Mary married at Armagh on the 12th September 1822.
