A set of twelve fine quality George IV silver gilt dinner plates by Philip Rundell for the Royal Goldsmiths: Rundell, Bridge and Rundell, hallmarked London 1822. Circular with gadroon border, engraved with the crest, coronet and garter of Hugh Percy, the 3rd Duke of Northumberland. 9.75" (24.8cm) diameter, total weight 243.3 troy oz (7567g).

Hugh Percy was an important aristocrat: Member of the Order of the Garter, Member of parliament for Buckingham, Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. He was also a well-known and important client of Rundell's, having purchased many of their most important pieces including one of 5 casts of the shield of Achilles, and a bronze copy of the Portland vase which is still on view at Cambridge.
