A fine quality late Victorian silver plated biscuit box (or jar) by Mappin & Webb, London c. 1880-1890. Egyptian revival style, oval body on conforming base with engraved foliate, scroll and swag decoration with four Sphinx masks on the sides, on four claw feet. The hinged lid with applied Sphinx finial. 8.25" (21cm) high, 9.75" (24.7cm) wide.
